Hello!
My name is Anne and I'm a tutor teaching English as a foreign language. English is my first language and I'm originally from Canada. Additionally, I hold a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate from ITTT.
In my experience, the ingredients for success when learning a language are regular practice and exposure, as well as confidence! Feeling supported as you try out new words and make mistakes is essential! That’s why I cultivate a learning environment that is supportive and fun. I want to get to know you, your interests and your unique journey learning English. I know that it can be intimidating and frustrating, but I hope to offer lessons at whatever pace challenges you while making sure you feel supported.
In addition to teaching English and learning other languages, I am particularly passionate about the arts and humanities. I have studied theatre and I hold a Bachelor's Degree, with Honours, in History and Theatre Studies. I have worked as a theatre artist and I love talking about all forms of art. I also am passionate about politics and I love learning about the histories and political contexts of other countries. I also like talking about philosophy, tennis and adventures while travelling.

five years ago I moved to France in order to learn French and study theatre. Having studied French, I understand the challenges and the rewards of learning a second language, and I apply this experience directly to my English lessons!
Based on my experience learning French, I tailor my classes to the goals and interests of my students. It is always easier - and more fun! - to speak a foreign language when you feel passionate and motivated. Rather than speak about topics or grammar abstractly, I want to tailor my lessons around what you specifically want to learn and what you like to talk about.
This means that the majority of my classes are conversation-based. That's how you can learn vocabulary in context and explore English as it is naturally spoken. That said, if there are recurring grammatical errors, I can offer lessons tailored to correcting them and I can also structure classes around strengthening a specific area of vocabulary (ex. watching and discussing a documentary on economics).
I like working with articles and videos; they can stimulate conversation and encourage engagement in English between classes. They also improve comprehension.
Lesson types that I offer:
Conversation with Grammar & Vocabulary Support
This lesson type is suitable for advanced beginners to advanced intermediate levels. We will talk about a topic each lesson as a way to build vocabulary. Depending on the student's level, grammar points and corrections are offered in context. New grammar and vocabulary introduced will be provided in written form following each lesson for the student’s reference and review.
Written English: I have taught English writing skills to university students and I have worked as a writer for a public relations firm, so I can tailor my lessons specifically around written English.
Business English: I worked for 3 years in a consulting firm in Canada so I can help you learn business English if that is your goal.
