My specificities as a teacher

My teaching philosophy is simple: children learn best when they feel safe, heard, and have fun. I don't believe in boring drills or repetitive grammar exercises. Instead, I create a warm, encouraging environment where kids naturally want to speak, ask questions, and express themselves in English.
Since I'm a native English speaker living in a French-speaking city, I understand exactly what challenges local children face—I see it every day. I use that insight to make English feel less like a school subject and more like a superpower they can use to watch their favorite shows, play video games, or make international friends.
My teaching techniques and methods:
- Conversation-first approach: We speak English from minute one, using simple, clear language adapted to their level. I correct gently and positively, never interrupting the flow of conversation.
- Games and interactive activities: Word games, storytelling, role-playing, and picture descriptions. Everything feels like play, but every activity has a learning goal.
- Real-life context: I use topics kids actually care about, like cartoons, sports, animals, food, and video games. This keeps them engaged and makes new vocabulary stick.
- Listening and repetition: I speak slowly and clearly, repeating key phrases naturally throughout the lesson so kids absorb correct pronunciation and sentence structure without even realizing it.
- Positive reinforcement: Every small victory is celebrated. I build their confidence so they're not afraid to make mistakes—because mistakes are how we learn.
Typical course of a lesson (60 minutes)
- First 5–10 minutes: Warm-up chat in English. "How was your day? What did you eat for breakfast? What's your favorite animal?" This gets them thinking in English right away.
- 15–20 minutes: Main activity. This could be a game, a story we read together, a short video we discuss, or a role-play scenario (like ordering food at a restaurant or introducing a new friend).
- 10 minutes: Vocabulary or grammar point introduced naturally through the activity. We practice it together with fun examples.
- 10–15 minutes: Application. They use the new words or structure in their own sentences, or we play a game that reinforces it.
- 5 minutes: Quick recap of what we learned, and I give them one small, fun "homework" (optional), like watching a short English cartoon or teaching a new word to a family member.
