I have a deep passion for education and language.
Throughout my career, I have traveled a lot. I love expanding my horizons. I have taught students from all walks of life, in and from different countries and continents. Because of my background in cross-cultural education, I love connecting with people from different countries and walking the bridge between
2 worlds.
I love exploring nature and ancient forests, with a big passion and knowledge of plants and herbs (medicine). Cooking with fresh veggies from the garden, or creating a dessert with fresh fruits from the neighbourhood is a recent interest of mine.
Walking, hiking and biking, and mostly dancing, are my more active passions.
Story/telling (with my tribe around an imaginary fire circle ;)) is another passion. Nothing better than diving in my imagination through books, and a good movie now and then!
Diving into topics related to human psychology and sociology can skyrocket my enthusiasm and inspiration. I am always curious to learn about my students' cultures.

My name is Merel and I am - born in Belgium - a native Dutch speaker. If you are looking for a calm, supportive, and joyful environment to practice your Dutch, you have come to the right place.
Holding a Master’s degree in Educational Sciences, I understand well how the human brain acquires a new language. My background teaching Dutch to diverse adult learners (NT2) has taught me that feeling at ease makes a world of difference when learning. My approach focuses on relaxing your nervous system through warmth, optimism, and a lively, welcoming atmosphere so you can find your natural conversational flow.
Natural conversation flow: We start speaking from day one through real, practical dialogues based on daily life or your personal interests.
Practical grammar made simple and applied: We cover grammar whenever you need it, but always in a clear, stress-free way that actually makes sense—no dry, endless rules!
A safe space to learn: My priority is making you feel comfortable and patient with your own progress, where mistakes are celebrated as part of the journey.
Having traveled over continents and lived in other countries, I bring a rich, open-minded, and cross-cultural atmosphere to our sessions, always adapting my pace completely to your unique learning style and personal goals.
My lessons are specifically designed for adult learners, expats, and professionals of all levels—even if you have no prior language background or feel highly insecure about speaking. My methodology is not about memorizing thick textbooks. Instead, we use a tailored approach where we co-create the lessons around topics you care about, ensuring that the grammar serves the conversation, and not the other way around.
