As a native speaker of Russian, born and raised in Moscow, I have been teaching my native language for the past 10 years. Although I do not possess a diploma of a teacher, my study experience among foreign students at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia would allow me to practice my pedagogical skills by giving private classes to some of my group mates on a daily basis. Today I am proud to say that the vast majority of them have managed to stay in Moscow and find an interesting occupation, where they regularly use Russian.
I started learning English as my second language at the age of 4. Up until today, I have been using it for study, professional and personal affairs. In addition, I lived in England and the USA where I mastered my writing and communication skills.
My BA studies in Sweden, where I have completed the course of Academic Writing and Rhetoric, were also held in English.
My current MSc studies at KU Leuven are fully held in academic English.
Besides the study experience, I have worked within the field of EU affairs in Brussels for the past 1,5 years, which have noticeably enhanced my professional English skills. I feel confident dealing with official documents and formal papers, including professional translation from English to Russian and vise versa for the past half a year.
My students vary by age, country of origin and reasons to learn either Russian or English.
Being a student myself, I completely support the idea of having diverse ways of learning. I always try to make every class entertaining, yet highly educational.
For both of these languages I usually ask to purchase a book which I choose for a student myself depending on a primary level or a specific goal (TOEFL, IELTS etc.), while adding complementary tasks.
Throughout my experience of teaching I have not met a single person who does not have an ability to learn a language. Hence I believe there is no excuse to be made, especially in today's reality where speaking English has become a requirement, not an extra skill.
So far, I have managed to help 9 students to master their Russian to an upper-intermediate level from scratch. Most of them have graduated and now work in Moscow using Russian on a daily basis.
Speaking of English, I have helped translating the documents, taking the interviews and writing political articles for a student magazine VOICE. In addition, throughout my last internship at Hart Energy Company in Brussels, I have dealt with Russian-English translations on a daily basis, managing the projects and official papers, taking interviews and helping with the update of the website.
In addition, I have helped three students pass TOEFL and IETLS tests in order to be enrolled to a university with the requirement of minimum 80 IBT based for TOEFL and 6,5-7,5 for IELTS.
